DATA CAN BE MORE HUMAN THAN YOU THINK
Recently one of our users was interested in how the future of Point-of-Sale (PoS) technologies will look like. A cornerstone of our research was the analysis of over two million restaurant reviews. First, we identified the reviews that include references to payment processes. This way we could zoom into the moment of when someone actually pays at a restaurant. Then we identified patterns across this condensed dataset and applied sentiment analysis. The surprising insight: Many customers complained about lack of eye-contact of the staff. A clear indication for PoS makers to take into account the importance of human interaction. Also, we could find out in which kind of restaurant automated payments outperformed human interaction and vice versa.
Such insights are just the beginning. We see many possible applications for our technology: ranging from supporting strategic decision making to inspiring design thinking processes.
